Summer Hills - original
Summer on the Palouse Hills happens swiftly. Green waves of grain blow in the cool early summer wind yearning for heat. Then just like that the sun comes and turns the hills a golden glow of yellow, copper and orange. The rustle of the grain heads in the wind sounds like a hushed rattlesnake. The earth is warm and the soil feels like powder sugar and clouds the air with harvest. The patterns from hungry machines carve intricate designs in the hills. The long hot days are filled with gathering and storing. Ever so quietly, the coolness of autumn is felt in the morning and the evenings. Summer on the Palouse has slipped away.
